Individual 1:1 Virtual Session

Therapeutic art offers so many areas that we can explore if there's a particular thing you're working through and you'd like to use creativity to help you manage your feelings/awareness around it with an art activity. Here's some examples of things you might be interested in working on:
- self-care
- gaining self-confidence
- exploring senses
- problem-solving
- increasing awareness
- exploring memories
- stress-relief
- self-reflection
- increasing mindfulness
- setting your intentions/goals
- becoming more optimistic/affirming
- Christian faith-based reflection
Individual sessions can be done from the comfort of your own home, through a virtual setting. What would a coaching session look like? We'll have a brief consultation chat to first discuss what specific area you'd like to address, talk about what creative experience or hobbies you may already have (if it's zero - that's perfectly normal and more than ok!) and if there's any creative mediums you would prefer to use.
Then we'll book a time where I would guide you through an activity where we'll start with a brief check in (sometimes this is just a simple question, or a breathing exercise, or a quick doodle to get you warmed up), then a specific creative activity, then check out with some discussion questions/follow up for you. We'll take about 30-50 minutes for a session.
We can either choose from creative materials that you have laying around your house, or I can suggest a list of items for you to gather before our session, or mail you a pre-packaged supplies box (for an additional cost).
What are common creative materials that can be used?
- paper (mixed media paper, tissue paper, collage materials from magazine cutouts, blank cards, printer paper, etc)
- paint (watercolour, acrylic)
- drawing utensils (crayons, markers, pens, pencils, etc)
- sculpture materials (clay, play-dough)
- craft supplies (glue, tape, cotton balls, q-tips, etc)
- miscellaneous (your phone, camera, digital programs like Canva)
- found objects (items in nature, toys, lego, items from your recycling bin, office supplies, basically anything you can find in your home!)
The beauty of practicing creativity in a way that is therapeutic is that it is not at all about what you create, but rather how the act of doing something creative can help regulate your senses and give you clarity and stress relief. You might finish creating something that technically doesn't "look good" at all - but did the process teach you something about yourself? Did it help you look at something in a different way? Were you surprised with using non-traditional materials and how fun that was to just be messy and care-free? Let's find out! Connect with me to set up an intro chat and we'll go from there.
